Y6 Class Blog

A ‘normal’ week in Y6

  • English and Maths lessons each day

  • RE lessons twice a week

  • Topic afternoons once a week (non-core subjects: History or Geography combined with Art or D&T)

  • PE and Science once a week taught by outside specialists

  • An additional PE lesson once a week taught by the Class Teacher 

 

Homework

Weekly tasks

The following activities are provided in advance every half term:

  • Spellings - words following a pattern to learn each week with their definitions
  • Maths - twelve arithmetic questions covering the four calculation methods and fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Reading - short text to read and comprehension questions to answer

 

Setting and handing in

  • Homework is set on Fridays
  • Homework is collected in on Wednesdays and marked by Mrs Lewis

 

Expectations

  • Homework booklets must be handed in by Wednesday to receive a gold star on the class homework chart
  • All children are to work to this deadline in order to deepen their learning and prepare them for the demands of KS3
  • Individual arrangements can be made for any child who is unable to make the deadline if staff are given reasonable notice
  • Homework club takes place on Tuesday lunchtimes with staff on hand to offer support and help with any queries
