A typical week in Year 1

  • English, Phonics and Maths lessons each day
  • Daily reading
  • Reading Practice Sessions - up to three times per week
  • RE lessons - Monday & Thursday
  • Topic (History or Geography) -  Monday
  • Art or D&T  - Wednesday
  • PE  - Wednesday - come to school in PE kits
  • Science - Tuesday
  •  ICT/Computing - Friday
  • Music - Thursday

HOMEWORK

 

  • Reading - daily reading is one of the best ways to support your child
  • Phonics and key word spelling/handwriting tasks
  • Maths follow-up - this keeps you up to date with the weekly Maths learning 
  • Occasional homework tasks in Topic and RE 

Homework is a vital way to support your child’s learning, so please support your child with this regularly.

 

End of Year Expectations for Year 1 (parent information)

Year One are working hard with their phonics and are being taught following the 'Letters and Sounds' scheme and also 'Rapid Phonics' interventions.
