A typical week in Year 1


  • English, Phonics and Maths lessons each day
  • Guided reading - daily
  • RE lessons - Wednesday & Thursday
  • Topic (History or Geography) -  Thursday
  • Art or D&T  - Friday
  • PE  - Friday - come to school in PE kits
  • Science - Tuesday
  •  ICT - Monday
  • Music - Monday



  • Reading - daily reading is one of the best ways to support your child
  • Phonics and key words​ 
  • Occasional homework tasks in Topic and RE 

Homework is a vital way to support your child’s learning, so please support your child with this regularly.


End of Year Expectations for Year 1 (parent information)

Year One are working hard with their phonics and are being taught following the 'Letters and Sounds' scheme and also 'Rapid Phonics' interventions.
